My Top 5 Outdoor Fabrics

Summer is right around the corner and if you’re like me, you are counting down the days to set up your relaxation retreat! As spring turns into summer, it’s the perfect time to think about redecorating and styling your outdoor patio space. Outdoor fabrics have come a seriously long way, advance technology in textile science has brought us outdoor velvet, woven, embroidered, textural fabrics… Brands like Kirkby Design, Zinc Textiles, Osborne and Little, Romo, Perennials, Casamance, Jab, Designers Guild all have launched indoor/outdoor ranges. These fabrics do a fantastic job at standing up to natures of elements, children’s mishaps and pet’s curiosities. There is no need to panic over a spilt glass of red wine or coffee, muddy shoes… It is all in the past! These collections caught my eye…

From Romo’s Mokolo collection, Lopez is an all over bold geometric outdoor weave. Its pattern and colourways create a sharp, fashionable and a contemporary feel. The perfect choice of outdoor fabric for statement upholstery and accessories for a modern open plan space, connecting the indoor and the outdoor living. It is made of 78% PP (Polypropylene) and 22% PL (Polyester) making it breathable, colour fast to light, mould resistant, oil and water and soil repellent. Ideal for cushions or an occasional armchair complimenting a sofa upholstered in a natural colour weave. Wasabi is my colour choice.

Designers Guild botanical style print from the Palme Botanique Outdoor Collection is exquisitely adorned with an intricate pattern of large scale nasturtium leaves digitally printed onto a resilient canvas. Make a statement for your outside space – the 100% acrylic base cloth used for this collection of outdoor prints is water repellent, soil, stain, mould and mildew resistant and also machine washable. Great for all exterior cushions, seating and sun loungers.

My third choice is Kirkby Design’s spectacular Jacquard Weave from the Pergola Collection. This herringbone pattern creates a sharp and fashionable outdoor fabric, ideal for upholstery and accessories. It is 100% PP (Polypropylene) making it breathable, colour fast to light, mould resistant, oil, soil and water repellent. With its wide choice of colourways, you can transform your outside space into a sleek and chic retreat. Terracotta and Putty, Peridot and Teal, Azure and Aluminium, the colour combinations are endless – effortless versatility.

Zinc Textile’s first ever range of outdoor fabrics! The Plage Outdoor Collection symbolizes the chic style and quirky undertones of this iconic brand. With a more relaxed approach than usual, textural woven patterns in white, linen and marine blue shades create a calm and serene feel. The collection includes five durable upholstery qualities and a usable semi-sheer with a delicate appearance, all specially designed for outdoor use, with mould, UV and stain resistant finishes. I love Pelican Cay, Bois Jolan, Colombier and Jacques.

PELICAN CAY is an eye catching horizontal nautical stripe in soft neutrals and vibrant shades.

BOIS JOLAN is an eye-catching display of exotic palm leaves with durable outdoor qualities.

COLOMBIER LAGOON is a chunky cable knit inspired design with a beautiful beachy appearance and outdoor durability.

JACQUES, an exceptionally soft two-tone boucle. It makes it hard to believe it is designed for outdoor use.

Perennials has become an industry leader in luxurious performance fabrics, emphasizing in design, colour, liveability and longevity. Starting with 30 fabrics, in classic stripes and solid colours influenced by nature’s colours, the company has grown its offerings to over 800 fabrics, as well as hand-woven and hand-knotted rugs, trimmings and cushions. Each 100% solution-dyed acrylic fabric, rug and trim is guaranteed against fading for three years and will add style to living spaces both indoors and out for many seasons. They have been making luxury fabrics and products that stand up to life’s everyday unexpected events without sacrificing great design.

Whether you are looking to reupholster your favourite armchair or sofa or want to refresh the look in your bedroom with a new headboard or change the seats from your dining chairs – just a few metres of fabric can totally transform a piece of furniture. Or perhaps you are investing in a new piece of furniture and you would like to cherry-pick a designer fabric… I seriously recommend the new generation of luxurious performance fabrics. They look absolutely fabulous and they do what it says on the tin!

Style inspiration through my eyes…
